About the projectDemocracy is considered as the form of government in the most of countries in the world today. A democracy implies that individuals participate in the administering of state affairs somehow. The most widespread form of democracy now is a so called representative democracy. This type of democratic government implies delegation of individuals’ option to a fewer number of their representatives. The history of modern democracy is practically the history of representative democracy, and it let us believe to its efficiency. Another form of democratic government is a direct democracy. Actually, it is an older form of democracy, which was already known in antiquity. It was a form of government in some of the ancient city-states. A distinctive feature of direct democracy is a direct participation of average citizens in the political decisions. Rudiments of direct democracy remain in some countries in the form of referenda. The predominance of representative democracy over the direct one is seemingly determined by a complexity of harmonization of the individual opinions with each other in big societies. But helping to cope with the harmonization complexity, the representative form of democracy, on the other hand, strongly limits the individual’s participation in making the decisions affecting all the society. There is still however a possible way for individuals to influence the world. It is a participation in organizations and institutions of civil society, which is considered as an essential part of a modern democracy.
